Portrait assignment- Candid and Posed images

Candid

Posed
Depth of field
I am writing about the second image here on this blog. This is an up close image of my friend Ashlyn. The depth of field is pretty focused and you can see the image clearly. I like how the image is focused on here face. The leaves in the back are not as focused and I like it that way.

Exposure
Originally the exposure in this picture was not as bright as it is now. I did edit the picture and made it a bit more exposed because it was underexposed. Now I am happy with the exposure. However if i were to re do this image I would expose it more.

Lighting
Similar to the exposure, the image was initially a little dark. Like I said before I did edit it and lighten it. Since the light used was totally natural It was a bit dark. Next time I would have tried to get a little more light for the picture. But Overall I think its perfectly alright.

Lines
Since this a portrait there is not a ton of places for a lot of lines. There are however a few you can see. One being in the subjects hair. You can see the texture of her which is straight and creates some lines. There is also some lines formed by the two sides of the driveway in the back of the image.

Colors
I really like the colors in this picture. They really are not a lot of them but they work together as they are. I especially like how the leaves are a very pretty orange and red color. I think it adds just a bit of nice interest in the back of the the image. I also like how it makes the subjects pale skin pop against it.

Composition
I did think about composition when I was taking this picture. I used the rule of thirds. The subjects face takes up only two thirds of the picture. I love the way I took this picture!! If I were to take it again I would not change the composition.

Depth of Field
The panorama I am writing about is the second one. The image of the tree trunk with leaves scattered around. The depth of field is ok in this picture, it is pretty much focused. Honestly it could be better and more focused.

Exposure
The camera I used for this picture was automatic so I didn't directly control the exposure. The image is pretty light. I think it looks good and I wouldn't change the exposure.

Light
This picture was taken outside with the use of natural lighting. It was fairly nice and bright outside so the image came out decently light. I like how the light looks. I like working with the natural sunlight. If i were to take this panorama again I wouldn't change the lighting.

Lines
There are two different places in this image where lines are visible. The first being the tree trunk in the center of the image. It creates a vertical line from the top of the image to the bottom. The second is a little less obvious, the lines in the grass from the lawn mowers. It creates some cool textures in the back.

Colors
I really like the colors of this picture. The leaves are my favorite of all. I love how pretty and red they are. I also like the green grass in the background. I Think the combination of the red leaves against green grass looks good.

Composition
The picture is a panoramic so I took several pictures and combined them. So I really didn't attempt to use  any certain rules. If I were to take this image again I would probably try to use one rule. I think it would improve the image.

Color Project

Depth of field
The image I am writing about is the third image used in the color project. This is the emotion through color picture. As for the Depth of field, It is a portrait type picture so the D.o.p is fine. The image in good focus and is clear and sharp. I am very pleased with this picture. I don’t think that I would change anything relating to the depth of field.

Exposure
Originally this pictures exposure was a little lower and the image was darker. However once in photo shop I began editing the photo and I did change the exposure a bit. I made the image lighter so you can see her face better and more clearly. Exposing the picture more allows you to be able to focus on the more important parts of the picture. Her eyes would be one of those parts, with the lighter exposure her eyes stand out more and really pop.

Lighting
This here is similar to the exposure. The picture was initially a bit darker then it is now. I also adjusted the lighting while editing. I made the whole image a little lighter along with changing the exposure. I like how now you can see her face and it looks flawless. I also like how you can see the slight shadow of her hand o the wall.

Lines
Since this picture is mostly of a face there aren’t a ton of lines shown. However the shadow of her hand on the wall creates a bit of a double line. You see her actual hand and then a small shadow cast on the wall above it. I really like how that looks in the image. But if I were to do it again I would try to add something or change something so there’s another natural line in there.

Colors
This image is part three of our color project so color is very evident here. This image was centered around the color black. The color black here conveys a sad and sort of depressing mood. Everything Julie is wearing is black and combined with her facial expressions the whole feeling is sad. I love this picture, it is my favorite of all these images! I think the color here just makes the image so much more powerful and allows the viewer to feel the emotion so much more.

Composition
In this picture I didn’t really use any rules of compositon. However I made sure that it was not symmetrical. Julie has her hand up and in her hair, which throws off the symmetry. But that is exactly how I wanted it to be. I didn’t want a symmetrical image. I think I wouldn’t have fit the mood of the image.

HDR

This is an HDR image which consists of 3 of the exact same pictures merged into one final image. One image is over exposed, one medium and one under.

Depth of field and focus
In this is image the subject is very clear and in focus. Since there is really only one main subject there is no need for blurring any part of the image. I think the DOP is pretty good in this image. I really wouldn't change anything if I had the chance to do it again. At least not this particular element.

Exposure
This picture has a fairly light exposure. However When I took this image I initially took 3 images of the same subject with 3 different exposures. Once they were all out together I edited the image and played around with the exposure and contrast. I made it a little bit lighter then it originally was. So in general i am leases with the exposure considering the fact that u created it to be exactly what I wanted.

Lighting
This image was taken indoors. However it was taken near a window where natural sunlight filtered in. The placement of the wine stand was set where the lighting hit from the side. So the lighting was a combination of natural lighting and side lighting. I rally like how the sunlight hits the wine stand and causes the pretty highlights and shadows.

Lines
This particular image has many different lines throughout it. The way the stand crosses creates many different sets of lines. It almost makes a checked type of pattern. The incorperated lines in this image I really like. I think that they add a lot of visual interest to the image and make it look better.

Color
This image consists of two main colors, black and the red like color of the wood. The color scheme is very simple and not over the top. I really enjoy how there are two different types of wood with two similar but slightly different colors. I think they compliment each other without competing. I also like how the dark bottles pop against the back.

Compositon
I like the composition of this image. I like the way the two bottles look surrounded by the the stand. I think the detail of the stand looks really good because the rest of the picture is fairly simple. The rule of thirds was not totally applied here but the nice angel makes up for it, Although the image is pretty centered I think it looks good and I would change it.

Composition

Depth of Field and Focus
Since this is a composition image, it consists of several different images. As far as DOF we can just focus on the background image of the railroad tracks. As you can see that the image is pretty sharp however it could always be more clear. Since it is somewhat a landscape picture it is meant to be very precise. In order to better the DOF I can change the aperture of my camera.

Exposure
The exposure refers to the amount of light exposed to the image sensor. For these Pictures my camera was set to Auto so the exposure was left up to the camera not myself. Most of these images I am satisfied with the exposure on. However to better the exposure of each image I can always set it myself and not rely on the camera too. Doing that would help create an ideal exposure for each photo.

Lighting
All of the images here on this composition were taken outdoors using the natural light. When I was shooting these pictures the light wasn't the first thing on my mind. I don't however think there is anything particularly wrong with the lighting. But I will say there is always room for improvement. Next time while i'm shooting I will pay more attention to the lighting of things.

Lines
Lines refers to the lines that are incorperated into your images. I think that I did a decent job with his in this set of images. The railroad tracks provide a great natural line in the background image. Also the way it disappears into the distant horizon looks very pleasing. The use of lines makes the whole composition of the picture look better.

Color/Value
Here the color and value refers to the scheme of colors used and the purpose or value of them. In this composition a pretty realistic color scheme was used. Each of the images that make up this composite are  pretty natural. None of the pictures contain any super bright colors. There is a lot of grey and brown in each individual image and not a lot of bright colors.

Composition
The composition of and image refers to the balance of all the things in the photograph. this can mean the elements, how they are arranged, the lighting and much more. There are some basic rules that can help you get the ideal composition for an image. One of the most popular being the rule of thirds. This rule is simply dividing the image into 3 parts and placing the subject on the dividing lines. SInce this is a composite it contains more then one image so the rule of thirds is harder to apply however during the placement of each individual photo I took it into consideration.
